Successful Season of Youth Programs

This spring, IEC coordinated two youth programs that provided memorable experiences and learning opportunities for young cooperative participants: Camp Kilowatt and Indiana Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.

Camp Kilowatt

From June 5-8, Camp Kilowatt took place at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston. This year, 84 campers from 28 co-ops and both G&Ts participated, with the support of 22 chaperones who helped make the camp a success.

Camp Kilowatt offered a variety of exciting activities, including:

  • Skywalker: A high ropes course featuring three levels, reaching nearly 40 feet in the air.
  • Horseback riding: Giving campers the chance to enjoy and learn the basics of horseback riding.
  • Bucket truck rides: Providing a unique perspective from above in the bucket of a co-op bucket truck.

The trip aimed to educate and inspire students about American history and government and provided the opportunity to make lifelong friends and much more.

Highlights of Youth Tour included:

  • Gettysburg National Military Park: A tour of the historic battlefield provided a learning experience on the way to D.C.
  • George Washington’s Mount Vernon: A visit to the estate offered insights into the life and legacy of America’s first president.
  • A Visit from Senator Young: Meeting on the steps of the Capitol, Senator Young’s visit was a significant moment for the students, highlighting the importance of public service and leadership.
