Indiana Electric Cooperatives recognized U.S. Rep. Todd Young (R, Dist. 9) for his leadership and support for electric cooperative legislative and policy priorities.
The “Champion of Indiana’s Electric Cooperatives” award was presented Monday, Dec. 7, at the Indiana Electric Cooperatives annual meeting.
“Rep. Young has proven time and again he shares our core beliefs and is willing to fight for electric cooperatives in Washington, D.C.,” said Tom VanParis, CEO of Indiana Electric Cooperatives. “Earlier this year he introduced the Regulations from Executive in Scrutiny (REINS) Act. This important legislation would provide Congress with increased oversight of federal regulations, such as the EPA’s Clean Power Plan.”
Young represents Indiana’s Ninth Congressional District and is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. His district is served by Bartholomew County REMC, Clark County REMC, Daviess-Martin County REMC, Dubois REC, Harrison REMC, Hendricks Power Cooperative, Jackson County REMC, Johnson County REMC, RushShelby Energy, South Central Indiana REMC, Southern Indiana Power and Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC.
“Making sure Hoosiers maintain access to affordable and reliable electricity is a high priority for me in Congress,” Young said. “Indiana’s electric cooperatives work hard to put people first in the communities they serve and are essential to the Hoosier economy. With a proven model consumers depend on, I look forward to continuing to work together on policies that reduce regulatory burdens and uncertainty in the industry.”
