Indiana Electric Cooperatives named Gayvin Strantz the recipient of the 2014 Ernest G. Shearer Memorial Service Award. Strantz, vice president of job training, safety and loss control at Indiana Electric Cooperatives, was presented the award during the superintendents and engineers professional section fall meeting.
Strantz has led IEC’s training and safety department for more than 15 years. He has been a strong advocate for safety accreditation within Indiana’s electric cooperatives. He was recognized for the growth of his department, adaptation to changes within the industry and advancement of the mutual aid program.
“The reputation of Indiana linemen is now widely recognized,” noted nominator Dave Barton, Clark County REMC Manager of Operations and Engineering.
The award recognizes outstanding achievements and strong character traits, including career competency, sharing of technical knowledge, concern for job-related health and safety, community involvement and leadership, and contributions toward community and employee health and safety. The award is named for Ernest G. Shearer, the first safety department director at Indiana Electric Cooperatives.
